Neal Sugarman
Neal Sugarman is the tenor saxophone player in the Dap-Kings and a co-owner of Daptone Records. Hailing from the Boston area, Neal has played with the Dap-Kings since 2001. Neal also has a Soul jazz project called The Sugarman 3, a band that predates SJDK and was a major impetus for Neal and Gabe Roth (Bosco Mann) to start Daptone Records together. Dap-Dippin’ and The Sugarman 3’s Pure Cane Sugar were the label’s first and second LP releases and they were shipped from Neal’s kitchen table.
Neal has played on records by Sturgill Simpson, Mark Ronson, Sara Barielles, Andra Day, Wale, Eric Clapton, Michael Buble, Foreigner, Amy Winehouse, Al Green, and many more.
